Foodies Tour of Augusta: New and Coming Soon

Augusta is well known for its delicious restaurants and unique local spots, and it just keeps getting better!

The Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) has had a boom of growth in the last few years, thanks to developments like Village at Riverwatch, Crane Creek shopping center, Evans Towne Center and a continued push to revitalize downtown Augsuta.

And with each passing year, we get more amazing spots to enjoy. Here’s some places that excite us:

I Heart Mac and Cheese

I Heart Mac and Cheese Augusta opened its doors in February 2021 and was met with immediate success.

The chain restaurant took up residence on Cabela Drive, right off Riverwatch Parkway. If you’re wondering how an entire restaurant can be made out of only Mac and Cheese, just try their Short Rib Philly Mac and Cheese bowl (pictured), or the Buffalo Fried Mac and Cheese bites, and we think you’ll have your answer! 

First Watch Cafe

First Watch Cafe officially opens their doors on March 8, 2021. Known for their delicious breakfast and brunch menus, they will be opening soon on Crane Creek Drive.

Their made-to-order menu includes things like Million Dollar Bacon (pictured) and Cinnamon Toast Cereal Milk. We never need another excuse to brunch, but if we did, this is a good one.

Emil’s

Emil’s, Augusta’s first self-pour taproom, is making its grand debut at the corner of 9th and Broad.

Ranging from beer to coffee, the website’s description of its namesake is enough to pique our interest:

“When [Emil] was little, his mom made hooch during the prohibition. His job was putting the caps on the bottle. He ran an entire army mess hall. He taught us to put strong black coffee in gravy because, well, he was just a baller like that. We called him Papa. His legacy lives on.” 

A legacy well worth trying yourself!

The Alley Downtown Taproom

And staying with the taproom trend, the Alley Downtown Taproom is a staple in the Aiken, SC downtown scene.

Boasting 48 taps of beer, cider, kombuchas, coffee and more, coupled with a Bring Your Own Food policy, it’s a success you’ll want to stop by if you’re in the area.

Taco Cat

Who doesn’t love a restaurant with a palindrome for its name? And of course, they offer plenty of tacos – in addition to appetizers and drinks.

Reviewers have also talked highly about the atmosphere, with great music, lounge couches, and more to give a bit of a elevated dining experience.

Want something a bit different? Try their Sunday brunch or book a group in their private dining room.

Toki Jr Japanese Restaurant

Toki Jr Japanese Restaurant opened its doors in North Augusta at the beginning of 2021. The restaurant is under the same ownership as the well-known Toki Japanese Restaurants in Evans and Martinez.

The affordable hibachi restaurant also serves favorites like poke bowls and bubble tea. It was met with lines out the door on opening day, and business hasn’t slowed down since!  

The Buzzed Ball

Owned by the same husband-and-wife pair that owns Roll On In, Buzzed Bull Creamery has a fantastic location in Evans, Ga.

Buzzed Bull is a liquid nitrogen creamery, featuring both alcohol-infused flavors and family-friendly options. Their desserts are made using liquid nitrogen, which is a cool -320° Fahrenheit, to flash freeze the ice cream, making the experience of watching your food get made just as enjoyable as eating it!  

Whiskey Bar

A known favorite in downtown Augusta, you absolutely need to try one of Whiskey Bar‘s unique burgers – such as The Devil’s Peak, Breakfast (yep, it’s what you think), or The Sink. These helped it get named one of the top whiskey bars in America by Yelp.

Some of the appetizers are also quite different, including whiskey waffle fries and a fried pig plate. Be sure to grab a side of coconut cream sauce with any fries you might get, too.
