Augusta Summer Bucket List
It’s no secret that summer is our favorite season, after all, it’s in our name! With summer quickly approaching, and that means warm and sunny days are here to stay in the CSRA. Whether you’re looking for fun outdoor activities for the family to do over summer vacation, or for an easy weekend outing with friends, we’ve got you covered. Below is a list of our favorite things to do outdoors in and around Augusta – happy summering!
New Savannah Bluff Lock & Dam Park is a beautiful spot in Columbia County to take in nature and beautiful scenery. With the Savannah River on one side and the Augusta Canal on the other, the park features walking trails, great spots for fishing, kayak rentals, and more.
If you’re looking to get outdoors, but not venture too far out of the city, look no further than the Augusta Riverwalk! The paved trail takes you through downtown Augusta along the Savannah River with lots of beautiful water views, a marina, an amphitheatre and more.
If you’re enjoying the Riverwalk on a Saturday morning, be sure to stop by the Augusta Market at the River! The weekly farmers market features lots of local artisans, baked goods, produce and more! It runs from 8AM to 2PM every Saturday from now until November.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can take in an abundance of wildlife at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park. There are several different walking trails depending on the type and length of hike you’re looking for. Keep your eyes peeled for birds, snakes, and even gators on the trails!
If you want to feel like you’re in the middle of nature without diving too deeply into the wild, the Lake Olmstead Park is the perfect spot! Just a short drive from downtown, enjoy walking and biking trails along the canal, quaint picnic spots with water views, or cool off at the wading creek and waterfall! It’s a perfect spot to take the whole family.
Baseball is finally back with the Augusta Greenjackets at SRP Park in North Augusta! Grab a drink and a hotdog and take in a game, enjoying all that minor league baseball has to offer! And starting this year, the Greenjackets are now affiliated with the Atlanta Braves, making them that much more of a home team!
While you’re on the South Carolina side, pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful new Sharon Jones Amphitheater, right next to SRP Park! After lunch, head for a walk along the river on the downtown portion of the North Augusta Greenway, and if you’re feeling ambitious, bring your bikes to explore the full trail!
If you want an outing that doesn’t require too much physical activity, take in the history and beauty of Augusta with a boat tour down the Augusta Canal. These guided tours give you a glimpse of wildlife and scenery, all while teaching you more about Augusta’s rich history.
If you’re up for a little bit of a drive, head over to Clarks Hill Lake! You can spend the day relaxing and playing in the water, or explore Mistletoe State Park where you can rent canoes for the day and then pitch a tent and enjoy some camping! If you’re looking for something a little less outdoorsy while still being at the lake, try Columbia County’s new Glamping experience while you’re there!
